test of strength and mental agility under severe pressure which
he performed adequately in. Several weeks later he received
information that he had finished in the top six percent which;
while being an incredible achievement was not quite enough to
gain entry into the academy. He persevered however and not
wanting to let the memory of his parents down went through
the competition all over again to ensure that he was admitted in
2396 at the age of nineteen.
During the summer of 2396 Horatio underwent the Starfleet
Academy Preparatory Program; which consisted of six weeks
of summer classes. He successfully navigated his way through
classes and exams while still having enough time to practice his
fencing. It was also during this time that he met Simon Bond,
an intelligence recruit from Rigel III. The two, became good
friends and practiced combat training together as well as more
mentally stimulating past times such as chess and logic games.
After this basic year Horatio, along with his friends had to
choose the major degree that would impact their future career
choice within Starfleet. It was at this point that Horatio enrolled
Temporal Mechanics and Quantum Cosmology with a minor in
Combat Engineering. While in his second year Horatio also took
a number of extra credit modules that would give him marks in
the top 1% guaranteeing him a place on the elite Red Squadron
Academy Training Program along with Simon.
Upon entering the Red Squadron in his third year Horatio was
nominated as Red Squadron Leader by the programs Directors
after a lengthy summer assessment program that involved
several exams and practical assessments. In this role he was
able to spend his third year learning in more depth and with
more practical sessions the way in which command and his
particular field of interest, temporal mechanics, worked in the
field. He was assigned the command of a Sabre Class vessel, the
USS Trident, and with a crew comprised of Red Squadron cadets
was mentored by Commander Richard Jackson; one of the Red
Squadron Program Deputy Directors.
On the day of the Graduation Ceremony in the summer of
2400 Horatio accepted his completion of the Academy and his
advancement to Ensign and a direct recruitment into Temporal
Investigations onboard the USS York as a junior field operative.
During one of his early assignments Horatio was tasked with
was to plant evidence to ensure a corrupt officer was arrested.
The officer in particular was stationed on one of the most se-
cure facilities in Starfleet and to the disbelief of his command-
ing officer Horatio was able to infiltrate, plant the evidence and
depart without being noticed making the assignment a flawless
incursion and less messy than had been proposed originally.
As a result he was given the nickname ‘Ghost’. By 2403 Horatio
had been promoted to Lieutenant Commander and was a senior
operative onboard the York often called upon for missions that
required a softer touch. During this period he was lucky enough
to meet and learn from some of the greatest figures in the his-
tory of the Federation which is something he is proud of to this
day. One of the biggest assignments Horatio was called in to
take care of was the sabotage of the USS Excelsior’s transwarp
drive. The Excelsior receiving that technology had been an error
in the timeline and as a result threatened the natural devel-
opment of Starfleet and would greatly impact the mission of
the USS Enterprise. As a result Horatio planted a PADD on the
mechanics of transwarp drives in the quarters of Commander
Scott so he would figure out how to sabotage it thus saving the
timeline. For his ingenuity and ability on the assignment he was
promoted to Commander.
In 2405 The USS York was attacked while on assignment in the
future by the Borg which killed the ship’s Captain and first of-
ficer. Horatio took command and managed to fight off the Borg
long enough to get the ship back to Earth Spacedock and to
safety. Horatio was summoned by Admiral Quinn and promoted
to Captain and given command of the Luna class timeship USS
Pathfinder. While on assignment Captain Black and his crew
undertook a mission to help prevent the destruction of the Vega
Colony. Horatio found this mission incredibly difficult due to
the run-in with the Borg but managed, with the help of others,
managed to keep the timeline intact. After many injuries and
several skirmishes they managed to fight back the aliens and
survive although the Pathfinder and the crew were lost causing
immense mental pain and sadness for Horatio. It was also at
this point that Horatio met, got closer too and fell in love with
Violet Skye whom he now has a relationship with. Promising her
he would cut back on the dangerous temporal assignments for
which he had built a reputation he agreed to only take on spe-
cialist temporal assignments and command the Red Squadron
cadet programme at the Academy. In September 2409 Horatio
learnt that his friend Captain Lock, wanted by Temporal Inves-
tigations, was about to embark on a new assignment as CO of
the USS Valkyrie. Horatio argued with his superior for hours to
ensure that the Temporal Investigations officer posted as first
officer to keep watch over Lock was him. Horatio is now the first
officer of the USS Valkyrie, course director for the Red Squadron
at the Academy and officer of the Department of Temporal In-
vestigations. It was also in September 2409 that Horatio’s own
command, the Red Squadron training ship and timeship USS
Victory NCC 91003 was reconstructed using the new Venture
Class frame. the Victory E was launched in late September 2409.
