The past few months I have had several peo-
ple ask that I interview myself. Since I recently
became the new VA of MACO, so I decided to
finally sit down and have a conversation with
myself… LOL. In all seriousness, this March
marks my two year anniversary with the fleet.
SPOTLIGHT ON CASSIE
What made you originally decide to play STO?
This is actually kind of a funny story… When I met my husband,
I was a single mom on a very tight budget, and so when we
got married and did our budgeting, I thought it was positively
stupid to have tot budget $50 a month for his various MMOs.
I never tried to stop him from playing his games, but since I
didn’t game myself, I generally thought it was a stupid waste of
money. So my husband set out on a bit of a crusade, looking for
an MMO that would hook me, that I would be willing to pay $15
a month for, to make me understand and get me off his back. I
have always been in love with Trek, so he introduced me to STO.
I started off playing casually, and got more and more hooked.
Of course, STO went free-to-play, so his games STILL cost us
money, while my STO doesn’t…. LOL
What made you decide to join the 12th?
While I was a real newb, I was ninja-invited to a fleet while
hanging around on ESD. I think many of us have been there… It
was a small fleet, made up of about 30 or so players, so there
were only a few players online at a time, sometimes none at all.
It did serve the purpose of showing me how great joining a really
active fleet would be, so I went searching. I wanted a large fleet,
so there would be more than a few members online at a time,
but also a place that I wouldn’t get lost in the numbers. The
12th, with its divisional set-up, seemed great. I /who’d the 12th
every time I logged on for about a week, getting a feel for the
activity level, and put in an application. The rest, as they say, is
history. Of course, the funny thing about how my husband got
me into STO is that this completely backfired. Now I am so in-
volved with the 12th, addicted to our forums, and view the fleet
as my second family. I am pretty sure he never meant for that to
happen… LOL!
What is your favourite thing to do in STO?
Honestly, I think pretty much anything involving other fleet
members! I think my absolute favourite things to do right
now are a whole 12th run mine trap (that one is pretty hard to
beat!!), running the different TD sector dailies on elite with a full
5 member team (the amount of “big bad” ships is awesome!!),
and just running STFs (especially Hive ground!!). Really though,
pretty much anything with 12th members is awesome!
What is one thing you love about MACO?
That’s a tough one… I originally joined MACO back in the days
of the really long STFs. I had only done a few of them at that
point, but I loved the teamwork and the camaraderie that came
from doing a 4 hour mission with 4 other people. The STFs have
changed, but the camaraderie hasn’t. Plus, I love how the guys
and gals in MACO strike a balance between casual and serious.
How high on the trek geek’o’meter are you?
A year ago I would have said pretty high… but after reading
nearly a dozen of other command member’s answers to this
question, I am going to have to rethink that… I have seen all the
episodes and movies (with the exception of a few TOS movies),
most of them at 4 or five time over. But I have never been to any
convention (although that’s on my bucket list!), not do I own
any Trek paraphernalia.
What is your Star Trek show or movie?
Who came up with this silly question?! (LOL) Seriously though,
they are all great in their different roles or purposes. As a
blanket statement, I really enjoyed the different perspectives
DS9 brings: the living on the station and the stories being a
little “extra” centered around people. I also love Sisko, and
admire the journey he (unwittingly) takes throughout the seven
seasons to reconcile his faith and his trust in science; I find that
fascinating. Plus, he punched Q… Doesn’t get much cooler than
that…
